What are Resveratrol and Grapeseed?
Resveratrol is a naturally-occurring polyphenol antioxidant that has been identified in over 70 plant species including nuts, pine trees and certain vines, as well as in red wine. It is understood to play a role in the “French Paradox” – an observed phenomenon that despite having a perceived unhealthy diet, the French population seem to suffer less coronary heart disease than is observed in other countries with the same risk factors. Investigations of this paradox have highlighted the benefits of Resveratrol & Procyanidins found in red wine.

Grapeseed is a superior source of Oligomeric Proanthocyanidin antioxidants, or OPCs. Grapeseed extract contains a specific OPC called Procyanidin B2-3’-O-gallate, which is claimed to be the most powerful individual OPC yet discovered. OPCs are known for their free radical scavenging abilities, heart health protection and ability to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol.

What are antioxidants and why are they important?
Antioxidants are a group of nutritional compounds found in plants (most often brightly- coloured fruits and vegetables, but sometimes also in herbs or other plant life) that help to protect the body against cell damage from unstable molecules called “free radicals”. Different types of antioxidants help to protect the body against different types of free radicals, so it is important to eat a wide variety of antioxidant-rich foods to help minimise overall free radical damage.
